John Hart Hunter Award Winners

John Hart Hunter (May 3, 1807 – February 12, 1872) is recognized as the father of the American college fraternity system.

The John Hart Hunter award is given to those fraternity chapters recognized for their work and advocacy in promoting a heroic vision for their chapters, their campuses, or their large networks. John Hart Hunter founded the Kappa Alpha Society (KA) in 1825 at Union College, the first of nation’s fraternities focussed on brotherhood. On November 26, 1825, John Hart Hunter founded the Kappa Alpha Society, the world's first Greek letter social fraternity. After graduating near the top of his class at Union in 1826, Hunter was admitted to the Princeton Theological Seminary where he studied until 1828.
